Packing Tape Types Explained: BOPP, Masking, Printed and Security Tape

Choosing the right tape saves money and prevents damaged or opened parcels. Here are the main packing tape types used in the UAE and what each one is for.

BOPP packing tape (brown and clear)

BOPP (biaxially-oriented polypropylene) tape is the standard carton-sealing tape. It is strong, light and economical. Brown tape suits brown cartons, cargo and storage; clear tape suits printed boxes and label protection. The common width is 48 mm (2 inch).

Colour tape

Coloured BOPP tape seals like standard tape but lets warehouses colour-code orders, returns, routes or departments.

Masking tape

Masking tape is a crepe-paper tape with a lighter adhesive that removes cleanly. It is for painting, labelling and temporary jobs – not for sealing shipping cartons.

Printed tape

Printed tape carries a message such as Fragile, Handle with Care or Special Offer, so the instruction travels with the carton.

Custom logo tape

Customised printed tape shows your brand on every parcel and makes it harder for anyone to reseal a box with ordinary tape unnoticed.

Security (tamper-evident) tape

Security tape leaves visible evidence – such as a VOID or OPENED message – if someone removes it. It is used for high-value goods, documents and cargo.
