How to Pack Cartons for Cargo from Dubai: A Practical Checklist

Packing cargo well prevents damage, delays and disputes. Use this checklist whether you are sending personal effects, e-commerce stock or trade goods from Dubai.

1. Choose the right carton

Use strong corrugated carton boxes: 3-ply for light items and 5-ply (double wall) for heavy goods and long journeys. Avoid old or weakened boxes. For soft goods and bulk items, woven PP sacks are a common alternative.

2. Cushion and fill

• Wrap fragile items in bubble wrap.
• Use corrugated roll or thermocol sheets to protect edges and separate layers.
• Fill empty space with thermocol chips so nothing moves.
• Put heavy items at the bottom and keep each box to a weight one person can lift safely.

3. Seal properly

Seal with 48 mm brown BOPP tape using a tape gun. Use the “H” method on the top and bottom: tape the centre seam and both edge seams. Add fragile tape or fragile stickers where needed, and security tape for valuable goods.

4. Strap and wrap

For heavy cartons, add PP strapping closed with metal seals or buckles. Group cartons on a pallet and wrap them with stretch film; use black stretch film to hide high-value contents.

5. Label clearly

• Write the consignee name, phone and destination on at least two sides with a permanent marker or printed label.
• Number the boxes (for example 1 of 12) and keep a packing list.
• Follow your cargo company’s rules for restricted items and documentation.
